On 1 August 2025, Warsaw marked the 81st anniversary of the Warsaw Uprising with the traditional pause at 5 PM, known as the “W” Hour. In the city centre, remembrance moved through balconies, street stalls, symbols, waiting crowds, gestures of belonging, and the red smoke of flares. This short photo essay looks at the anniversary as a public ritual of memory unfolding in the streets of Warsaw.
